Carters Steam Fair

Yesterday evening, on a balmy late summer evening, we headed up to the Royal Victoria Park in Bath for not one but two enchanting events. We got there just as four hot air balloons were being lifted into the sky, and stood mesmerised as the latter two filled with air and floated off.

Next to the balloons was Carters Steam Fair and it was such a feast of colour and magic for the eyes that you'll have to excuse the overload of photos in the rest of this post. The numerous vintage attractions had been beautifully restored by the Carter family and we ran around the park exclaiming with delight whilst being serenaded by Johnny Cash and other musical favourites from the 50s and 60s. We made a pledge to make this an annual Biddle family trip and can't wait until little B is old enough to enjoy the rides instead of bawling his eyes out round the little train like he did last night.

  1. Ah, lovely photos - Carters Steam Fair were at Womad last year (and probably this year, though we didn't go, boo) and it was amazing, so colourful. My oldest screamed his way round the big wheel, I think it was a bit too rickety feeling for him, though knowing my youngest - the family daredevil - he would be well up for it! I'll look out for them coming to Bath next year, would love to go again. Rachel x
